Ochsner’s Section of Congenital Cardiothoracic Surgery provides operative care for the whole range of congenital heart conditions. Comprehensive care is provided from the premature infant to the fully developed adult who has congenital heart disease. The staff consists of a highly integrated team who provide coordinated care aimed towards each individual patient. The surgical team consists of two specialized, board-certified cardiothoracic surgeons, who have expert qualifications. The patient is cared for together with the assistance of multiple team members some of which include the pediatric cardiopulmonary bypass technologists, the collective nursing team, pediatric cardiology anesthesiologists, pediatric cardiologists and the pediatric intensive care physicians. The Cardiothoracic Team is highly dedicated to excellent clinical care. We thrive on educating parents and family members as that is an integral part of the healing process. Research is actively pursued, keeping the program on the cutting edge of technology and up to date on the latest advances. Our two cardiothoracic surgeons are on the advisory board of the Medline indexed journa together with many of the Ochsner pediatric cardiologists. They also have written many journal articles, book chapters and given worldwide presentations on congenital cardiothoracic surgery.
