Prenatal Classes/Childbirth Education : About

At Ochsner Medical Center a variety of prenatal classes are available. In fact, there are a series of prenatal classes that are free to our expectant patients. They cover such topics as the labor and delivery experience; vaginal delivery versus Cesarean Section delivery; Epidurals; postpartum care; car seat safety; newborn care; sibling classes for siblings; and breastfeeding.

All classes are taught by our maternity nurses and our breastfeeding class is led by certified lactation consultants. We also have Lamaze classes that do have a fee and are taught by a certified Lamaze instructor. Most recently, we launched a brand new prenatal class called the "Happiest Baby on the Block," which instructs expectant parents on how to calm a new baby. This class, though, has a fee that covers the costs of a special parenting kit.

At Elmwood Fitness Center, we also offer Pregnancy Yoga Classes. These classes are aimed at providing fitness as well as stress relief techniques that can be used throughout your pregnancy and labor.
