When a patient goes into cardiac arrest, the heart stops beating effectively, and blood is unable to be pumped throughout the body which can result in severe brain damage. Ochsner’s Thermosuit Hypothermia therapy can drastically decrease the risk of permanent brain damage by reducing body temperature between 32-34 degrees Celsius within the first 24-hours after a cardiac arrest.  The Thermosuit pumps ice water into a suit that surrounds the patient.

About 1,000 people a day suffer from cardiac arrest, with only 5% reaching the hospital in time to receive medical care.
