Child obesity affects 34 percent or nine million American children. And, the state of Louisiana has some of the highest child obesity rates in the country.
To help in the fight against this epidemic, Ochsner's Elmwood Fitness Center in New Orleans has launched its Mobile Fitness Unit called "On the Move" and has taken P.E. class to schools in local neighborhoods.
Physical education programs vary from school to school and the On the Move program offers similar guided physical activities that include cardiovascular workouts, nutrition classes, and heart-healthy cooking demonstrations designed to teach parents and children how to cook healthier at home.
