Ours is a mission 80 years in the making, as strong today as it was back in 1942 when Dr. Alton Ochsner and four colleagues opened New Orleans’ first multi-specialty group practice. There are a million reasons, large and small, why we are so committed to this work, with the most important being you.

On the heels of unprecedented 2020, 2021 delivered its own set of challenges to the healthcare community. 

Despite these headwinds, Ochsner Health Network rose above and proved that we are stronger together.

Undeterred by challenge. Relentless in pursuit of Ochsner’s mission. More than 34,000 strong. In 2021 it was their resilience that propelled us through every challenge — while reaching even higher. Through it all, they persevered. In fact, they triumphed. It was a year powered by their strength, stamina and optimism.

The Ochsner Health Nursing Annual Report celebrates the incredible contributions and impacts that all nursing roles make every day.

This year we celebrate The University of Queensland – Ochsner Clinical School program and graduating class who received a 98% match rate through the National Resident Matching Program®. The report also highlights many examples of the extraordinary research occurring across our Research Centers of Excellence. The professionalism, dedication, and innovative spirit in Academics allows us to offer our patients and communities better health and brighter futures.

Ochsner Lafayette General was called to adapt in 2021. Through pandemic surges, community vaccinations and support for our hurricane ravaged neighbors, we made resilience a part of our practice.

Despite our adversities, Ochsner Lafayette General has remained a champion for excellence in our work and the care we provide. Our facilities have been recognized as some of the top healthcare providers in the nation.

The year 2020 marked the beginning of an era that would change healthcare forever. Overnight, the COVID-19 global pandemic created unprecedented challenges for patients and providers alike.

And yet Ochsner Health Network logged a year of unparalleled accomplishments in network growth and financial savings and rewards.

2020 was a time for heroes. In an unprecedented time extraordinary people stepped forward to treat, to comfort, to protect and to heal. Ochsner Heroes are everywhere among us. These are their stories.

Throughout 2020, Ochsner heroes dedicated themselves to caring for others. They continue to write a critical chapter in our history today.

Ochsner Nurses are our heroes! We recognize and celebrate Ochsner Nurses during an unprecedented year.

In 2020, we struggled, stretched ourselves and found new strength. Our communities were tested, and so were our supplies, facilities and our talented, resilient caregivers, who exhibited grace in spite of unpredictability. Through it all we persevered and continued to provide unwavering care and compassion.

As we look toward the future, our merger with Ochsner Health means even more opportunities for our employees and even more world-class care for our patients — right here at home.

This report highlights the achievements and activities of Academics at Ochsner Health over 2020, many of which involved our response to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As the largest Louisiana-managed, clinically integrated network, Ochsner Health Network demonstrates how our physician-led “engine” is working to build connections for providers that drive success.

By nearly every measure 2019 was another remarkable year for Ochsner Health, a year of growth and innovation — one when we deepened our commitment to patients and the broader community.

This year was a groundbreaking one for Lafayette General Health. We launched our telemedicine application, Health Anywhere, broke ground on new facilities and began a planned merger with Ochsner Health.

It was a year of remarkable impact for the 811,000 patients from all 50 states and 70 countries who trusted us with their care

In fiscal year 2018, our community helped save a hospital and access to healthcare for over 54,000 people who rely on University Hospital & Clinics annually. When strangers advocate for one another, that is community.

In 2017, our more than 3,000 employed and community physicians served more than 733,000 total patients from all 50 states and more than 60 countries, and our Ochsner physicians provided more than 2 million clinic visits.

Our inspiration to excel comes from one source — the 267,670 patients who trusted us with their care last year. Every day, our community gives us the opportunity to demonstrate our promise to fulfill our mission to restore, maintain and improve health.

As Ochsner celebrates 75 years of providing the highest quality healthcare to those who live and work in every parish in Louisiana, all 50 states and more than 80 countries across the globe, we reaffirm our commitment to comprehensive, compassionate, individualized treatment. Together, we are leading innovation in healthcare prevention and delivery while educating the very best of our next generation.

Throughout 2015, the entire Ochsner team—from our frontline caregivers to the thousands of individuals who support our operations behind the scenes—have worked with remarkable commitment to help us reach incredible new heights. Together, we are making a real difference in the care we provide and the lives we save.

This year, we expanded our system while continuing our award-winning service. Not only did we receive recognition for our high-quality care, but we also added more physicians to our staff, provided more graduate medical education, cared for more patients and provided more charity care.

2014 was a remarkable year at Ochsner, filled with lifesaving outcomes, major milestones and significant accomplishments. Serving patients from all 50 states and 90 countries, Ochsner is increasingly recognized for its abiding commitment to state-of-the-art care. Yet while these accolades are indeed great honors, what really inspires the leaders, physicians and employees of the health system to continue achieving excellence is their commitment to saving and changing lives, one patient at a time.

As a regional leader, we continue to provide excellent healthcare closer to home. Our position remains: one system, one belief, ultimately, one human being taking care of another in need.

Patients and other healthcare providers recognize our number one commitment to delivering the highest quality care, our ability to perform groundbreaking procedures and the breadth and depth of the services we offer. Ochsner’s reputation is helping us draw patients from regional, national and international locations.

As evidence of our commitment to quality, we have continued to earn top rankings from prestigious third-party organizations like U.S. News & World Report. The care Ochsner provides is truly recognized as being among the best in the nation.

However, this annual report is more than a listing of awards. Our emphasis is on outcomes, not accolades, and we measure success one patient at a time.

By expanding our services and facilities, we are reaching more patients, improving patient outcomes and training tomorrow’s doctors, today. This year’s accomplishments prove we are leading with purpose and serving with passion.
