Ochsner physicians are involved with training residents as well as medical students. Primary care physicians joining the staff at Ochsner will also have the opportunity to be involved with the education of our medical students. In a unique partnership, the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia and Ochsner provide medical students an opportunity to be part of a truly global medical school experience. Through this program, students from the United States can experience the benefits of both a world class university and a world class healthcare organization. Students entering this program attend the first 2 years of medical school in Australia and complete the second 2 years of their clinical education at Ochsner. Graduates of this program have gone on to match in a variety of specialties across the United States.
Primary care physicians are encouraged to be part of this unique and exciting program as teaching faculty. Faculty members receive an academic appointment to the University of Queensland and are eligible for teaching awards and educational trips to Australia. Ochsner trains internal medicine residents through it's ACGME accredited program and provides clinical rotations for third and fourth year medical students through an affiliation with the University of Queensland Medical School.

Ochsner is committed to a multi-disciplinary, clinically-integrated research program of biomedical innovation and discovery with the ultimate goal of improving the health and wellness of our patients. Research opportunities are available to all interested physicians.
Ochsner Research, covering a broad spectrum of scientific disciplines and expertise from molecular and cellular biology to epidemiology, is organized around three centers/institutes. The Institute of Translational Research is home to Ochsner’s laboratory-based research with ongoing investigations in various diseases including hypertension, diabetes, cancer and neurological disorders. The Institute of Clinical Research supports investigator-initiated clinical research and sponsored clinical trials in nearly 30 medical specialties with particular emphasis on Cardiology and Oncology research. The Center for Applied Health Services Research focuses on outcomes and effectiveness research; current studies include investigations in medication adherence, chronic disease management, and healthcare information technology.
