Black lives matter everywhere, especially right here at Ochsner Health and in the communities we serve. Racism of any kind has no place at our campuses, and no one should feel unsafe or voiceless on our watch,’’ says Warner Thomas, president and CEO of Ochsner Health. So how is Ochsner listening and putting those words into action? Our chief diversity officer, Deborah Grimes, says that for starters, Ochsner is forming a System Diversity and Inclusion Council, which will influence policy, practices, improvements and education for the organization. We’re also researching healthcare disparities in Louisiana and looking for ways we can help, diversifying our business suppliers, and training our leaders to recognize their own biases and how to learn from others’ experiences. “It’s our responsibility to match our words and actions at Ochsner to what our diverse community needs from us,’’ Ms. Grimes says.
A message from Warner Thomas, president and CEO of Ochsner Health:
"Like many of you, I’ve been troubled over the past week with some incredibly sad and disturbing realities. It’s hard to accept that our country – the one that has demonstrated so much unity in serving our diverse communities during COVID-19 – can remain so divided."
