Christopher Bankhead, MD, specilizes in orthopedic sports medicine at Ochsner Health in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Dr. Bankhead is a Baton Rouge native, and he joined the Ochsner team in August 2020. He completed his fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at University of Virginia. He served as a team physician for the James Madison University football team, the UVA men's basketball team and the UVA men's lacrosse team. He specializes in arthroscopic and open reconstructive surgery of the shoulder, hip and knee. He has a special interest in athletic injuries in people of all ages, who exercise for fitness and focuses on improving his patients' quality of life regardless of activity level. Dr. Bankhead completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of New Mexico before his fellowship at the University of Virginia. He has advanced experience in arthroscopic shoulder technique, including arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, labral repair and shoulder stabilization, including open bone transfer or grafting procedures and shoulder reconstruction. He also has extensive experience in the management of knee and hip injuries including ACL, MCL, PCL, meniscus, cartilage and patella femoral pathology, as well as hip labral tears and femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). Outside of work, Dr. Bankhead spends as much time as possible with his family enjoying all that Louisiana has to offer in terms of food, music and the outdoors.
