Lutifat Kashimawo, MD, is the section head of pediatric critical care medicine and the medical director of the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at Ochsner Hospital for Children. She earned her medical degree from the University of Ife, Ile-Ife in Nigeria, Africa. She completed her internship and practiced at the Massey Street Childrens Hospital in Lagos, Nigeria, before immigrating to the United States. She completed her pediatric residency and fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at the University of Miami and Jackson Memorial Hospital in Florida. She is board certified in general pediatrics as well as pediatric critical care medicine and has been on staff at Ochsner since August 2001 as a pediatric intensive care provider. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of Society of Critical Care Medicine. She has been very instrumental in the growth of the pediatric intensive care unit and has built a solid team of specialists caring for critically ill children with complex needs. She believes every child should be cared for with respect and compassion.
