Dr. Stephen Spindel served eight years in the Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard and graduated as an Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society member from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. Afterwards, he completed an integrated residency fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. During this time, he trained under his mentor and the world leader in mitral valve repair surgery, taking part in over 350 mitral repair cases. He also spent years training with the leaders of aortic surgery, focusing on valve-sparing aortic root replacement, aortic arch replacement, and the Ross procedure. At Ochsner Medical Center, he specializes in mitral valve repair, particularly through a small three inch incision, in addition to aortic valve and root operations. He also performs coronary bypass surgery and is an active heart and lung transplantation surgeon. Dr. Spindel is a New Orleans native and when he’s not operating, he enjoys exercising as well as fishing with his family.
