Dr. Walter Hoyt practices pediatric cardiology at Ochsner Health. He received his undergraduate degree in Physical and Chemical Engineering from Washington and Lee University, and he received his medical doctorate from the Medical College of Georgia. Following this, he completed his internship and residency in Pediatrics at Tulane University / Ochsner Health in New Orleans. He completed his categorical fellowship in pediatric cardiology followed by an advanced fellowship in adult-congenital cardiology at the University of Virginia. He then completed an advanced fellowship in pediatric electrophysiology at Vanderbilt University. Dr. Hoyt is board certified in pediatrics, pediatric cardiology and adult-congenital cardiology. After practicing in Ohio, he returned to Ochsner in 2021. Dr. Hoyt's expertise is in pediatric electrophysiology (including arrhythmia ablation, pacemaker and defibrillator implantation and management of congenital heart rhythm disorders), adult-congenital cardiology and sports-cardiology / exercise-physiology. He serves as Ochsner's director of pediatric electrophysiology and pediatric exercise-physiology. He is an active member of Heart Rhythm Society, Pediatric and Congenital EP Society and the American College of Sports Medicine. His research interests include the development of biophotonic technology in cardiac ablation catheters, as well as arrhythmia mechanisms and management in pediatrics and adults with congenital heart disease. He is also active in school and community medical emergency preparedness as a board member of the Teal Schoolhouse and as the local medical director of Project Adam.
