Ochsner STEM Ambassador Program
The Ochsner Education Outreach team is recruiting students who have a passion for healthcare and STEM education. Through this program, students will work with the Ochsner Education Outreach team in the community as an experiment leader.

The application period for 2019 - 2020 STEM Ambassadors is closed. The application for the next cohort of STEM Ambassadors will be open next August.
- Interest in STEM, healthcare
- Between the ages of 14 - 17
- Currently in 8th - 12th grade
- Attend a school in Jefferson or Orleans Parish
- All STEM Ambassadors must attend the training session and commit to 20 hours of volunteer work between October 2019 - May 2020.
Training for accepted students will take place at Ochsner Medical Center - New Orleans on Tuesday, October 1 from 5 - 7:00 PM.

Members of the STEM Ambassador program will work closely with Ochsner Education Outreach to support Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math education in the community. Ambassadors will help develop, lead, and encourage the implementation of hands-on science.
This program IS an opportunity for students to volunteer as leaders, practice communication skills, network with health professionals, and serve the community.
This program IS NOT an opportunity for students to receive experience in the clinic/hospital, observe healthcare operations, or interact with Ochsner patients. STEM Ambassadors will not work in clinical areas.
Program Guidelines & Behavioral Standards
STEM Ambassadors are expected to be on their best behavior at all times and treat fellow students, leaders, administrators, employees, and community members with the utmost respect and understanding. If deemed necessary by the Ochsner Administration, a student may be asked to leave the program. Behaviors qualifying for immediate removal include but are not limited to: disrespect, discriminatory behavior or language, refusal to participate, slander of Ochsner, Ochsner staff or classmates, etc.
STEM Ambassadors will be required to volunteer for a minimum for 20 hours between October 2019 and May 2020.
Students must provide their own transportation to and from events.
STEM Ambassadors will be issued a t-shirt at the start of the program. This t-shirt should be worn at all volunteer events. Students should dress professionally. Students must cover body piercings and tattoos and secure long hair. NO sweatpants (jeans acceptable when noted), NO tank tops or bare midriffs, NO baggy clothing or clothing that drags on the floor, NO exposed undergarments, NO scrubs or lab coats, NO sandals or flip-flops, NO dangling jewelry, NO caps or hats.
Upon acceptance, STEM Ambassadors will be asked to complete a Parental Consent Form, Photo Consent, and HIPAA acknowledgement. All students are required to attend the in-person training session on October 1st from 5 – 7 PM at Ochsner Medical Center – New Orleans.
Volunteer opportunities will be posted online, and STEM Ambassadors can sign-up virtually. If a student’s availability changes, it is his/her responsibility to notify the Education Outreach staff at least 1 week prior to the scheduled event.
