We know during this time that our modified visitor policy is causing anxiety for those with loved ones currently admitted at Ochsner.

If your loved one currently has a smart phone or tablet in their possession at the hospital, we strongly encourage using the technologies on that smart device to stay connected with them this during this time.

Video Family Connect is available to help families connect with their loved ones in an Ochsner inpatient facility.

This initiative is to support our care teams who are trying to facilitate a video connection for their patients who are unable to do so on their own.

To help this process, we are asking family members to download Skype to their phone or tablet and create a username, so when a representative from Ochsner is ready to document that information they will be ready.

FAQs

Who is Family Connect Good For?

Please understand that during this very uncertain time, this process is primarily for family members that want to be with their loved ones in their last moments.

While we do not want to deny any family member the opportunity to communicate with their loved ones, we ask you to please be mindful of the priority for those patients in their final moments.

I made my account, now what?

This situation is fluid, once we have consent from your family member to add them as a Skype contact we will do it.

Can I call my loved one via skype?

You can always communicate with your loved one on their personal device. Unfortunately, at this time, these Ochsner sponsored accounts will be used for when the care team is facilitating a call with the patient and their family members face to face.

Incoming Skype calls cannot be accepted at this time.

What if my loved one has their own device?

We continue to support you talking on your own device, but would like you to create your skype account to have on hand in the event that we will need to contact you.
