Ochsner Medical Center – New Orleans is located on Jefferson Highway near Uptown New Orleans. This facility is equipped to care for severe and critically ill patients as well as patients needing specialized care at our centers of excellence: Ochsner Cancer Institute, Ochsner Transplant Institute and Ochsner Heart and Vascular Institute.
As a 767 bed hospital, Ochsner Medical Center offers the opportunity to learn and provide patient care at a Magnet recognized facility, which means our organization meets rigorous standards for nursing excellence. With three centers of excellence, this campus is also one of six training sites in the world for robotic surgery and is nationally known for many skilled physicians.

West Tower
Expanding Care
The West Tower expansion at Ochsner Medical Center – New Orleans sets a new standard for inpatient care in our area. The additional beds in this tower will allow us to serve and treat more patients, including our most critical patients receiving treatment in cardiology, neurosciences, transplant and surgery. All seven floors in the West Tower feature private rooms to provide the most comfortable space for our patients to heal.

The Future of Care Delivery
This state-of-the-art inpatient facility within West Tower will include features of our Ochsner Optimal Hospital, which are designed to improve safety, quality and the overall patient experience. The Optimal Hospital program offers advanced, patient-centered care to our community using innovative devices, materials and processes like:
- Tablets offered to patients to view their health data and daily schedule, learn about their care team and condition, take notes and request comfort items, as well as access select entertainment portals.
- Wireless vitals monitors to continuously relay patients’ vitals directly to their medical records and to care team members’ phones in emergencies, while providing patients unrestricted mobility and minimal disruptions to collect health information.
- Nightly “quiet hours” and red night lights to minimize environmental sleep disturbances.
- Copper-infused antimicrobial bed sheets, gowns, towels and surfaces to provide supplemental protection against infections.
This expansion represents our relentless commitment to our community through developing new and innovative models of care.

My 85 year old Mom was transferred to Oschners bc of internal bleeding from Ocean Springs Hospital this week. The care she received was awesome! She had some great doctors and nurses. My Sisters were so impressed with Dr. Guthrie and his team as well as Nurse Hannah, Nurse Alissa and Nurse Eli and Aide Kerri on the 10th Floor. They took good care of her and we want to Thank them so much for the great care they gave our Mom. We really appreciate you! Val, Helen and Beth

I had to go to the emergency room for an injury. I’ve had many ER visits in my lifetime and recently my entire experience with ER here was the BEST ever!! Every person who took care of me from entry to exit were terrific! Each knew their job and did it well ! They were personable and professional . I can’t praise them enough!

A week ago my beloved brother in law was admitted to ICU and sadly passed away. He was in the ICU for 4 days and we were so grateful for the wonderful compassionate care by the nurses. They truly helped us deal with this very devastating situation more than they know and we will always be grateful for their dedication and compassion. They deserve to be mentioned and thanked as the job they do everyday is so incredibly important. So THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts to Ashton, Max, Marissa, Genevieve and Maddie. You guys made such a difference to us and to my brother in law in his final days. 🙏♥️

Truly the best hospital I’ve ever been to, and I’ve been in and out of hospitals for the past 15 years. I did not know care THIS good existed. Even if there was a problem with one nurse, they fixed it the very next morning. And Celeste is a WONDERFUL nurse. Truly the best I’ve ever had in my life! Because of her, I was able to get my appetite back and I learned things that benefit my health that I will forever take with me. Sincerely, thank you, from the bottom of my heart!!!

I was recently in the ED. Medical care was very good but cleanliness of the bathroom was atrocious. Overflowing trash can, dried feces on toilet seat. Not what I would expect in a hospital. Housekeeping needs to do better

My recent hospitalization at Ochsner was absolutely the best hospitalization I have ever had from start to finish. I highly recommend my neurosurgeon, Marcus Ware, for his expertise, and the nurses on Nuro ICU are outstanding. If you are able to stay at Brent House, the night before surgery, I highly recommend that for as strange as it sounds, you feel like you’re on a mini vacation and go into surgery feeling very relaxed.
