COVID-19 Self-Care and Symptom Monitoring Program
With the new Omicron variant of COVID-19, we recognize that people have a lot of questions about what they should do if they have been exposed, are experiencing symptoms or need a COVID-19 test. At Ochsner, we are here to help guide you through this process and have developed a COVID-19 Self-Care and Symptom Monitoring Program through MyOchsner.
Where can I go for a COVID-19 test?
At-home testing: We strongly recommend at-home testing, whether you are experiencing symptoms or want peace of mind knowing your COVID status. At-home tests can be purchased at major retailers such as Walmart, Amazon, Walgreens, and CVS. Some local health departments are also giving away at-home testing kits to residents. Check your city’s health department website for availability. The rapid at-home test kits are reliable, and many are the same tests Ochsner utilizes in various healthcare settings.

Click the button below to see our current testing locations and hours of operation. Please note that many of these locations are administering PCR tests and results can take up to 72 hours.

I’m positive for COVID-19. What do I do?
If you have tested positive for COVID-19:
- Isolate immediately for 10 days and follow CDC guidance.
- Drink plenty of fluids and take over-the-counter ibuprofen or acetaminophen if and as needed for headaches, fever, and other mild symptoms.
- We also recommend having a thermometer to check your temperature and a pulse oximeter, which measures your oxygen level. Both thermometers and pulse oximeters are available at most major retailers, including CVS, Walgreens and Walmart.
- Sign up for Ochsner’s free COVID-19 Self-Care and Symptom Monitoring Program. By completing a quick form on MyOchsner, you will be automatically enrolled into our symptom monitoring program. If your symptoms worsen, our care team will be there to guide you on next steps and treatment options.

How do I sign up for Ochsner’s COVID-19 Self-Care and Symptom Monitoring Program?
For patients and community members who already have a MyOchsner account, log-in to MyOchsner and search for the “COVID-19 Self-Care and Symptom Monitoring Program”.
- Once in your MyOchsner account, click “Menu”, then “COVID-19”, scroll down to find “Start a new COVID-19 self assessment”

If I’m negative and experiencing no symptoms, what do I do?
The Omicron variant demonstrates how COVID-19 can mutate rapidly where vaccination rates are low, underscoring the importance of vaccines.
- Wear a mask. When indoors with people outside of your immediate household, mask up. Masking is effective at curbing the spread of COVID-19.
- Get vaccinated. Vaccines are safe and effective at preventing severe illness, hospitalizations, and death.
- Get your booster. If you are already vaccinated, we urge you to get your booster shot now if eligible. Boosters have demonstrated the ability to significantly increase protection against infection and severe outcomes.
- Pfizer boosters are available to those 16 years of age and older at least 6 months after your initial 2-dose series.
- Moderna boosters are available to all adults ages 18 and older at least 6 months after your initial 2-dose series
- Johnson & Johnson (J&J) boosters are available to all adults ages 18 and older two months after a J&J vaccination.
