As you prepare to welcome your baby into the world, there are so many things to consider. For your comfort and peace of mind, we invite you to personalize every aspect of your birth plan. Explore your options when it comes to pain relief, delivery methods, breastfeeding and newborn care, and choose what and who will ease any concerns and give you confidence on that special day. Ochsner Family Birthing Centers offer the highest levels of medical care for both you and your baby and a variety of personalized options designed to meet your labor and delivery needs, goals and expectations. Some of our locations offer choices like water birth, wireless monitoring so you can walk during labor, lactation assistance from award-winning consultants and Certified Nurse Midwives.

We support each patient's choice including natural birth, water birth or medicated birth. Birthing tubs, showers, birth balls and birthing chairs are available, as well as monitoring that allows patient mobility.

In addition, our Certified Nurse Midwives offer well-woman services including yearly exams and birth control.

Certified Nurse Midwives are experts in traditional vaginal birth and have a deep trust in women's bodies and the birth process. They encourage women and their families to actively participate in their healthcare by providing individualized education, counseling, pre-natal care, labor and delivery and postpartum support.

Certified Nurse Midwives believe that pregnancy and birth are normal life processes. They feel that labor is best experienced in a place where women feel safe and have attendants that they know and trust. All aspects of a woman are involved in pregnancy and childbirth including her feelings, hopes, fears and physical, spiritual and practical needs, as well as those of her partners.

The birth process is unique to each woman, and we are founded on these beliefs. Our board-certified OB/GYN physicians support this philosophy and are readily available for assistance if it becomes necessary.

Midwifery and alternative birthing options are available at Ochsner Baptist and Ochsner Medical Center - Baton Rouge, but your delivery can be personalized at any of our locations.
