Orthopedic Trauma and Surgery

On average, 6 million people in the United States break a bone every year. Here in the Gulf South, some of these fractures will benefit from the special expertise of the Ochsner Orthopedic Trauma team. Your journey to healing begins here.

The Orthopedic Trauma team at Ochsner provides treatment for patients with severe musculoskeletal injuries, including multiple broken bones, compound fractures, fractures near a joint and fractures of the pelvis.

Ochsner is home to a fellowship-trained Orthopedic trauma surgeon with the experience and precision required to care for even the most complex injuries. Along with the trauma surgeon, your care team may include a physician's assistant, a nurse, the anesthesia team, a special cast tech and an orthotic fitter who will make sure you get the equipment you need as you heal.

Ochsner accepts most major insurances. View insurances accepted at Ochsner.

After your surgery, the Orthopedic Trauma team will be there to give you post-op instructions and answer your questions about wound care and pain reduction. We’ll discuss any restrictions you may have, and give you a timeline for getting back to work or your exercise routine.

Our orthotic fitter will work with your insurance company and Ochsner Home Medical Equipment to make sure you have any equipment you need, such as a wheelchair, walker, sling, braces or crutches. In addition, we’re here to help with FMLA and disability paper work.

Trauma surgery is performed at Ochsner Medical Center on Jefferson Highway. For your convenience, outpatient physical and occupational therapy is available at Ochsner Therapy and Wellness with multiple locations throughout the region. Homebound patients may receive therapy at home.
