Brain and Spinal Cancer

The Ochsner Brain and Spinal Tumor Program offers adults and children nationally-ranked care through an integrated and comprehensive team of board-certified specialists in neurosurgery, oncology and radiation oncology who are experts in skull base tumor surgery and treatments.

The program is able to treat all types of central nervous system tumors in adults and children using the most advanced technologies such as intraoperative navigation systems and brain mapping to aid in the safe removal of tumors while preserving surrounding tissue and reducing post-surgery problems. The multi-disciplinary team works with each patient to develop a customized treatment approach designed to their specific condition.  Treatment options include non-surgical and surgical approaches.  The team promotes active and ongoing clinical research offering patients additional options beyond the standard of care.

Non-surgical treatment options include the use on non-invasive radiosurgery.  Ochsner Brain and Spine Tumor program surgeons are among the Gulf South region’s most experienced in using this technique as well as Gamma Knife and linear accelerator-based technologies to treat tumors.

The planning for care to assist the curing of brain tumors is managed by a multidisciplinary team composed of a neurosurgeon, oncologist, neuro-endocrinologist and radiation oncologist. This approach gives patients peace of mind knowing they are receiving a range of the most up-to-date, comprehensive care options.
