The Ochsner Cancer Institute provides a cancer care team and support services for patients who are undergoing cancer treatment. Ochsner believes in providing the highest quality experience while treating each patient by offering a wide range of services including oncology support groups, an onsite dietician, Psychosocial Oncologist and oncology social workers. Healing Yoga classes are offered to patients.

Support Groups

Ochsner offers multiple FREE classes and support groups for patients and their families before, during and after chemotherapy.

Chemotherapy Class

Registration is required. Recommended for patients who will be receiving chemotherapy as part of their treatment plan. The class includes a small group of patients and covers topics such as:

  • What to expect, what to bring and what is provided during infusion
  • Information on the most common side effects you may experience
  • How to recognize problems during treatment
  • Infection and food safety precautions
  • Other Ochsner resources available to you

Each patient should attend one session. Feel free to bring a family member or a friend.

Nutrition for Cancer Survivors

Maintaining good nutrition throughout cancer treatment can be very challenging. Eating the right foods during and after treatment can help you feel better and stay stronger. Nutrition for Cancer Survivors meets periodically throughout the year.

Yoga Classes

Yoga Classes can help relax your mind and center your thoughts. They can also help you maintain flexibility and may help you cope with symptoms from cancer and chemotherapy. No prior yoga experience necessary.

Young Survivors Yoga

Registration is required. For ages 45 and under.

Cancer Support Groups

Cancer Support Groups offer physician, oncology social worker and dietician speakers that will address an array of topics, followed by an open group discussion. Presentations are designed to support the patient with topics such as sexuality and cancer, lymphedema, meditation & relaxation techniques, nutrition, massage, social security disability benefit and much more. Support groups are designed to be informational and empowering for both the survivor and their caregivers.

Survive Dat

Registration is not required.

This support group is where young breast cancer patients can gain access to local support groups, health information and more, all tailored to their specific need. In partnership with MARY BIRD PERKINS CANCER CENTER and LSUHSC SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH.

Breast Cancer Support Group in New Orleans and Baton Rouge

Registration is not required.

This support group is focused on patients in all stages of their diagnosis and treatment. We welcome patients and their families to these informative sessions!

Look Good Feel Better

Registration is required.

This program offers group, individual and online sessions that teach beauty techniques to help people with cancer face their diagnosis with greater confidence.

Knitted Knockers

Registration is required.

Knitted Knockers knitting group offers FREE knitted breast prosthetics for women experiencing mastectomy. Join the knitting group or find out how to receive a breast prosthetic.
