Who Can Have a Lung Transplant?

Criteria for Adult and Adolescent Pediatric Lung Transplant at Ochsner Medical Center

The ideal patient for lung transplant is a person with end-stage lung disease for whom conventional therapy has failed to provide acceptable benefits and without dysfunction of other major organs. Lung transplantation may be an option for patients with the following diseases:

  • Lymphangioleyomyomatosis (LAM)

  • Occupational Lung Disease
  • Interstitial Pneumonitis
  • Connective Tissue Diseases causing Interstitial Pneumonitis
  • Pulmonary Hypertension
  • Pulmonary Veno-Occlusive Disease
  • Pulmonary Capillary
