Leading the way in advanced aortic care

The aorta is the largest blood vessel in your body. It carries blood from your heart to every major organ. When disease affects the aorta, such as a thoracic (chest) or abdominal aneurysm, it can become life-threatening without treatment. The right care depends on where the problem is and how complex it is.

At the Ochsner Aortic Center, you are cared for by one coordinated team. Our heart and vascular specialists work side by side to evaluate your case together and build a treatment plan made just for you. This integrated approach means you get the full strength of our expertise from your first visit through your recovery and long-term follow-up

Complex aortic disease calls for a team you can trust. Our specialists treat more than 80% of abdominal aortic aneurysms with minimally invasive procedures, such as endovascular aortic repair, which supports faster recovery and better outcomes.

Advanced treatment for complex aortic disease

The Ochsner Aortic Center team treats the entire aorta, from the valve and root to the ascending aorta, arch, descending thoracic and abdominal aorta. We offer both open and minimally invasive (endovascular) options, choosing the safest, most effective approach for your needs.

You can count on our team for the full range of advanced aortic care, including:

  • Aortic valve repair and replacement to restore healthy blood flow
  • Valve-sparing root replacement and the Ross procedure when we can preserve your own valve
  • Yang root enlargement to make room for a properly sized valve
  • TAVR explantation to remove and replace a prior valve when needed
  • Open, hybrid and endovascular arch repair for the most complex cases
  • Open repair of thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissections, including complex reconstruction of the circulation and rerouting or reimplantation of blood vessels to the head when needed
  • Fenestrated and branched TEVAR to repair complex aneurysms in your chest while protecting nearby branch vessels
  • Open and endovascular thoracoabdominal repair for aneurysms that reach across your chest and abdomen
  • Fenestrated and branched EVAR to treat abdominal aneurysms near your kidney arteries with a custom-made stent graft

Additionally, we offer advanced solutions such as Physician Modified Endografts (PMEG), which are specially tailored stents used to treat complex aneurysms; hybrid aortic arch repair, which combines open surgery and endovascular techniques for complex arch disease; and Thoracoabdominal Branch Endoprosthesis (TAMBE), a device designed to repair aneurysms in the chest and abdomen while maintaining blood flow to critical organs like the kidneys and intestines.

Through research and clinical trials, Ochsner has helped develop new ways to treat aortic diseases, ensuring our patients receive the best care possible.
