Biography

Dr. Shannon Lovell is a licensed clinical social worker, clinical supervisor, and behavioral health leader specializing in outpatient psychiatry and psychotherapy across the lifespan at Ochsner Health. She provides psychotherapy services to children, adolescents, and adults, working with individuals, families, and multidisciplinary treatment teams. Her clinical interests include trauma-informed care, mood and anxiety disorders, adjustment disorders, grief and loss, identity development, family systems interventions and complex relational dynamics.

Dr. Lovell earned her Doctor of Social Work (DSW) degree from Tulane University and her Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Barry University, where her studies focused on mental health, social policy, and counseling across the lifespan.

Since joining Ochsner Health in 2008, Dr. Lovell has advanced into leadership roles and currently serves as Section Head of Social Work within the Department of Psychiatry. In this role, she contributes to clinical leadership, workforce development, interdisciplinary collaboration, and supervision initiatives within behavioral health services. She has participated in multiple institutional committees and initiatives, including the Healthy State Initiative, Behavioral Health Council, and Psychiatry Department Leadership Taskforce.

In addition to her clinical and leadership responsibilities, Dr. Lovell is committed to the advancement of the social work profession through teaching, mentorship, and clinical supervision. She serves as a board-approved clinical supervisor for LMSWs pursuing licensure and as a practicum field instructor for MSW student interns. Her professional interests include psychotherapy process, clinical education, behavioral health systems, and the integration of technology and artificial intelligence into mental healthcare practice and documentation.
