Johnathan Smith was born in New Orleans and attended Rummel High School. From 2005 to 2011, he served with the Louisiana Army National Guard Washington Artillery based in Jackson Barracks. After Hurricane Katrina, he enrolled in Louisiana State University (LSU) and later obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from LSU Health Sciences Center in 2013. Johnathan worked at Ochsners Transplant Stepdown Unit starting in 2012 as a patient care technician, then as a nurse and finally as an operations coordinator. In 2019, he received his Master of Science in Nursing degree from Southeastern Louisiana University. He is certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. After graduation, he led the primary care team at Odyssey House Louisiana. In 2021, he returned to Ochsner as a nurse practitioner at the Lapalco clinic. Johnathan possesses extensive experience providing care for patients with a broad range of acute and chronic medical conditions. He is adept at counseling and educating clients and their family in the areas of health promotion, maintenance and disease prevention. Johnathan is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the Louisiana Association of Nurse Practitioners. He was honored to receive the DAISY, Provider of the Year, and Distinguished Scholar awards.He has always been drawn to the science of how to keep both the body and mind healthy. However, he also really enjoys connecting with people and helping others on a personal level. Nursing is a perfect blend of these interests.
