Michael Braxton, MD, specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Ochsner Health. He was born and raised in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. He graduated from Broad Run High School in Ashburn, Virginia then attended the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia where he majored in biology. After college, he attended medical school at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. After graduating medical school, Dr. Braxton moved to New Orleans and completed the combined internal medicine and physical medicine residency program. He is board-certified in both internal medicine and physical medicine. In 1998, Dr. Braxton began practicing internal medicine. A year later, he became the medical director of the inpatient rehabilitation unit at the Northshore Regional Medical Center in Slidell. He held that position for about five years while continuing to practice both clinic and hospital-based internal medicine. After hurricane Katrina, Dr. Braxton resigned from the director position to focus on primary care. In 2008, he shifted his focus again to practice spine medicine in association with the NORTH institute in Lacombe. During that time, he also took on the role of medical director of the cardiac rehabilitation unit at Louisiana Heart Hospital. Dr. Braxton is committed high quality patient care and a friendly, efficient office experience. As a member of the Slidell Memorial Hospital and Ochsner Back and Spine team, he hopes to use that commitment and years of experience to provide the most comprehensive treatment of spine disorders to the Northshore.
