Dr. Thomas Atkinson is a medical oncologist at Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center. A Louisianan by birth, Dr. Atkinson was raised in Northwest Arkansas. After earning a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Arkansas, Dr. Atkinson then attended UAMS in Little Rock where he graduated with honors in research. Following medical school, he returned to Louisiana where he met his wife (a New Orleans native) during his internal medicine residency at Tulane University. He remained at Tulane for a hematology and oncology fellowship and was elected as chief fellow in his final year of training. In 2021, he was elected as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. His clinical interests include integrative oncology, palliative oncology and geriatric oncology. Dr. Atkinson has articles published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at national conferences in the field of cancer care."It is commonly said that medicine is both an art and a science. In my experience, this is absolutely true. Cultivating the artistic side of my practice is therefore extremely important to me. In my spare time enjoy painting," Dr. Atkinson said.
