Biography

Dr. Thomas Atkinson is a hematologist and medical oncologist at Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center. A Louisianian by birth, he grew up in Northwest Arkansas, earned his medical degree at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). He completed his internal medicine residency and hematology oncology fellowship at Tulane University, where he served as chief fellow. He was elected a fellow of the American College of Physicians in 2021.

Dr. Atkinson’s clinical interests include anemias, clotting disorders and consultative hematology. He has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at national conferences.
Away from the clinic, Dr. Atkinson is a husband, a father of three, and the owner of a Havanese who may or may not understand she's a dog. In what little leftover time remains, he enjoys reading and writing.
