Dr. Vasquez grew up in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He completed a B.S. at Muhlenberg College and a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology at Lehigh University. He then did post-doctoral work at Weill Medical College of Cornell University. His research focused on the regulation of cell division and mechanisms involved in migration and metastasis.
He completed his medical degree at the State University of New York- Downstate Medical College and his residency in pediatrics and fellowship in pediatric hematology, oncology and stem cell transplantation at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
He is the Director of the Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant and the Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer and Survivor programs at Ochsner. Dr. Vasquez is a member of the International Society of Pediatric Oncology and the American Society for Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplant. His clinical interests include young adult leukemias and cancers, Ewing sarcoma, neuroblastoma and sickle cell disease.
