Dr. Sanica J. Matthews received her undergraduate degree from Xavier University of Louisiana. She received her doctorate of optometry from Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. During her tenure at Illinois College of Optometry, Dr. Matthews completed an optometry student externship in primary care and advanced ophthalmic care at the Illinois Eye Institute in Chicago, an ocular disease externship at Tuscaloosa Veterans Affairs Medical Center, a low vision externship at the Ochsner Health Center in Metairie, Louisiana, and a pediatric and contact lens externship at the Family Vision Care Center and Neuro Vision Rehabilitation Institute in Valencia, California. Following this Dr. Matthews completed a residency in primary care at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans through the Southern College of Optometry. Dr. Matthews has been on staff at Ochsner since September 2018 and practicing optometry since 2012. She is certified in ocular therapeutics by the Louisiana State Board of Optometry Examiners. Dr. Matthews practices comprehensive optometry at the Ochsner Health Center in Metairie and Ochsner Medical Center on Jefferson Highway. In her spare time she enjoys arts/crafts, Broadway plays, church and live music.
