Explore the rewards of joining Golden Opportunity

Journalist Betty Friedan said it best: Aging is not lost youth but a new stage of opportunity and strength.” As we grow older, we have an opportunity to shape and mold our lives into something we like. The days of rushing from one thing to the next always wondering how we will get it all done are behind us. Now is the time to put yourself first and embrace your happiness and personal growth. At Golden Opportunity we like to call it “aging with intention.” Let us be your partner towards self-fulfillment, growth and expansion of your physical, mental and emotional well-being.

Our program allows you to meet people and stay active. Being socially engaged can improve your mood, sharpen your memory skills and increase your lifespan. Studies show it also lowers your risk for developing some health problems like dementia, heart disease, stroke and some types of cancer. All people benefit when they're connected and engaged. Continue to grow, learn and push boundaries by attending our educational seminars, social activities or enjoying our group travel.

Travel opportunities

Day trips: One day bus trip taken by Motorcoach to exciting and adventurous locations in Louisiana and nearby states.

Overnight and extended travel: Whether you’re looking to set sail on a cruise, journey the countryside by train, explore the sights and sounds of the United States or travel to faraway lands in other countries; we offer all of it. Group travel is the safest and most affordable way to check off the travel goals on your bucket list.

Social activities

Monthly meetings: Educational seminars given by local physicians and community leaders on an assortment of topics such as health, finance, legal, safety, dental health, medications, crafts and more.

Lunch and learn: Delight in a delicious meal while learning about interesting topics that affect our health and community. Presentations are given by leading physicians and local leaders.

Wellness sessions: Everything from hearing checks, flu shots, grief support and so much more.

Broadway productions: Experience award-winning Broadway plays housed in the twinkling star-lined ceiling of the Saenger Theatre to viewing the best talent offered by local community theater. A wonderful way to satisfy your cultural cravings!

Movie review: Enjoy the latest box office favorites on the big screen with new friends. Add a box of popcorn with drink and it’s the perfect afternoon delight.

Cooking demonstrations: Local chefs share their love of heart healthy cooking in live cooking demonstrations. Learn everything from how to find the freshest ingredients to pairing the right foods for better health.

Breakfast/coffee gatherings and dine around: Meet at area restaurants and coffee spots for friendly conversation and good food.

Technology seminars & assistance: Learn about innovative technology like digital medicine and virtual visits. We also help with learning how to work your mobile devices, iPad, laptops and social media applications.

Medicare advantage seminars: Prior to annual open enrollment we invite many of the managed care companies to explain what’s new and changing with their program for the upcoming year.

Holiday celebration: We love a good theme, and the new year is our time to gather all members from the surrounding regions together to eat, laugh, dance and enjoy.

Book club: We choose a single book to read each month, then come together to share our opinions or explore deeper meanings through each member’s insight.

Garden club: Together we share our trade secrets through education and hands-on activities. Whether you have a green-thumb, or you’re just getting started, there is always something to learn, new plants to discover and new ways to be inspired.

We are always looking for new and exciting ideas to keep our members engaged and socially active. You can email suggestions or call 225-236-5496.
