Group therapy is a helpful and effective method that is often used as a primary treatment option but can also be used in conjunction with individual, couple or family therapy. Most problems that people encounter can be helped using a group therapy format.
Ochsner provides a number of therapy groups for children, adolescents and adults that address such issues as depression, anxiety, poor social skills, parenting problems, marital problems, adults who were raised in dysfunctional families and co-dependency problems. Groups often meet weekly for one or more hours and for a specific number of sessions. Generally, a patient meets with the therapist for a pre-group screening prior to beginning group therapy to determine his or her best options.
