Some medicines are hard to find at regular pharmacies, but we make getting these special medications simple. With locations in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, we serve patients across the region and can ship your medicine directly to your home. Our team works every day to offer caring, personal support and to make your experience as easy and comfortable as possible.

We offer free home delivery in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, and many medicines can arrive quickly. Our Patient Management Program gives you regular check-ins with your pharmacist, refill reminders, and extra support at no cost. You also have access to a pharmacist day or night if you have an urgent question.

About Us

We are open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and a pharmacist is on call after hours and on weekends. Our pharmacies are located at 1405 Jefferson Highway, Suite A, in New Orleans and 11200 Industriplex Boulevard, Suite 160, in Baton Rouge.

A specialty pharmacy helps people who take medicines for serious or long‑term health conditions. These medicines may need special storage, close monitoring, or approval from your insurance. When your doctor sends us a prescription, we start working on it right away. We contact your insurance, help you with steps like prior authorizations, and look for financial support if your medicine is expensive. After that, we call you to explain your medication and set up delivery or pickup.

Our team is trained to help you understand your treatment, manage side effects, and stay safe while taking your medicine. We also send refill reminders through the MyOchsner app or by phone to help you stay on track.

At Ochsner Specialty Pharmacy, we know how important it is for you to get your medicine quickly so you can start or continue your treatment. On average, it takes us about 3 business days from when we begin working on your prescription to when we dispense it. During this time, we make sure your insurance approves the medicine, the cost is as affordable as possible, and that you get all the education you need before you receive it.

Medication adherence means taking your medicine the right way — at the right time, in the right amount and for as long as your doctor tells you.

Ochsner Specialty Pharmacy helps patients stay on track with their medicines. We talk with patients about how to take their medicine and give them tools like dosing calendars and early refill reminders. Because of this support, our patients follow their treatment plans very well — our average adherence rate is around 90%.

Ochsner Specialty Pharmacy makes sure every patient is on the medicine that works best for them. We work closely with your provider until we find the treatment that helps you the most. Our results show this — our medication effectiveness rate is about 91.81%. This means our team is good at adjusting treatments when needed, checking in with patients, and staying involved throughout the refill process.

Accreditations

We are proud of the care we provide and always work to do our best. One way we show this is by earning national accreditations from URAC and The Joint Commission. These groups review our services to make sure we meet high standards for safety, quality, and patient care. Their approval shows that both patients and outside experts recognize the quality of our pharmacy.

URAC Accreditation is known as one of the highest honors a specialty pharmacy can receive. Only select pharmacies earn it. This accreditation means we follow best practices and fully support patients on their health journey.

Patients

Below is our welcome packet. It has all the important information about our pharmacy and how we operate. You will get a copy with your first shipment, but you can always look at this one on our website whenever you need it.

New medications

After your doctor sends us your prescription and your insurance approves it, we will call you within a few days to set up your first delivery or pickup. Before we send your first order, you will talk with a pharmacist to go over your medication and ask any questions. You can call us anytime to get an update on your order.

Medication refills

We make refills easy in two ways:

  1. Use the MyOchsner App: You can request refills by filling out the refill questionnaire in the app. We will send you a reminder by email or app message 7 days before your refill is due. If you do not respond, we will call you. If you need help, you can use our Refill Guide. Note: Some medications cannot be refilled using the app.

  2. Call Us: If your medication cannot be refilled through the app, we will call you 7 days before it is due. You can also call us anytime, but please try to call at least 4 days before you run out.

Free home delivery

We offer free delivery in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama (cannot deliver to P.O. boxes or USPS mailboxes).

  • Deliveries are available Tuesday through Saturday.
  • Next‑day delivery may be available for urgent needs, depending on where you live.

Specialty medications can cost a lot, even if you have insurance. If your copay is too high, we can help you find ways to lower the cost. This may include copay cards, help from drug companies, or state and federal assistance programs. If you qualify, we will help you apply.

No insurance?

Some drug companies offer free medication for people without insurance. If your medication qualifies, we will help you apply for these programs.

We are here to help you get the most from your specialty medicines. If you have questions or concerns, please call us. Providers

To send a prescription to Ochsner Specialty Pharmacy, you can e‑prescribe it or fax it to 504‑842‑6931 with the completed provider referral form below. If you are a non‑Ochsner provider, it really helps us if you also fax any chart notes or lab results that can support the prescription. This information makes it easier for us to review the prescription and get insurance approval.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

We have most specialty medicines. If we don’t carry yours, we’ll transfer your prescription to a pharmacy that does.

We mainly use MEDRx Delivery Service for deliveries. In some cases, we may use FedEx. Call us to find out which service will deliver your order.

Only Ochsner Specialty Pharmacy uses the refill questionnaire. Other Ochsner pharmacies do not. If you get the questionnaire, it’s for medication filled by Ochsner Specialty Pharmacy.

Not always. If everything looks good and the pharmacist doesn’t have questions, we’ll set up your delivery for the date you picked without calling. You can still call us anytime to check your order. 

You can keep a credit or debit card on file. With your permission, we’ll charge your card the day before delivery. If you don’t have a card, we can send an invoice for payment by check, money order, or through the MyOchsner app (this is approved case-by-case). For in-person pickups, payment is due at the register.
