Athletic Training Outreach Program

Ochsner Sports Medicine is home to the largest Athletic Training Outreach Program in the state of Louisiana. Athletic trainers (ATs) are healthcare professionals who collaborate with physicians to provide preventative services, emergency care, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. Each athletic trainer in Ochsner’s outreach program is licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners and has earned a degree from an accredited athletic training curriculum. Accredited programs include formal instruction in areas such as injury/illness prevention, first aid and emergency care, assessment of injury/illness, human anatomy and physiology, therapeutic modalities, and nutrition. Ochsner’s athletic trainers stay on the leading edge of knowledge within the field and maintain certification requirements through local and national continuing medical education meetings and conferences.
