My Journey at Ochsner - Embracing Leadership and Parenthood

In 2014, I embarked on my journey with Ochsner as a front-line hospitalist after completing my medical residency. From the very beginning, I felt a strong sense of belonging and support. Encouraged by my leadership, I actively engaged in committees, making improvements both within the department and across the Ochsner system. When the opportunity for a vice-chair position arose, I decided to apply, even while eight months pregnant with my first child. It was a proud moment when I received this promotion just a month before going on maternity leave, and I was deeply grateful for the trust and opportunity bestowed upon a new, young parent like myself.

Support through Fertility Challenges: A Rock of Solidarity
The journey to conceive my second child was a challenging one, involving a year of fertility treatments. Throughout this emotionally demanding process, my Ochsner team remained an unwavering pillar of support. Their understanding and flexibility allowed me to maintain a balanced focus on my patients' care and my family's well-being.

Leadership and Maternity Leave: An Empowering Experience
During my second pregnancy, another exceptional opportunity arose—a VPMA position at Ochsner Kenner. Despite being nine months pregnant, I pursued the role and interviewed for it with enthusiasm. During my maternity leave, Ochsner offered me the position, reaffirming their support and understanding of the importance of work-life integration. With their encouragement, I savored my maternity leave, returning to my new leadership position with a supportive and welcoming team. Ochsner's respect for my postpartum recovery and family bonding further solidified my admiration for the organization.

Advocating for Expanded Parental Support
As a member of the Ochsner board, I wholeheartedly embraced the opportunity to advocate for more comprehensive parental support within the organization, drawing upon my own experiences. I firmly believe that all women should have access to the resources that empowered me on my journey. Witnessing Ochsner embrace this vision and expand their parental leave policy brings me immense joy, knowing it will lead to a stronger and happier workforce.
