Alex Heatherly, MD, practices orthopedic trauma surgery at Ochsner Health. Dr. Heatherly has expertise in the treatment of complex fractures and traumatic injuries of the extremities, pelvis, and hip socket. In addition to acute fracture care, he specializes in the management of fracture-related complications, including fracture-related infections, malunions, and nonunions, offering comprehensive care for each unique orthopedic condition.

After graduating from the University of Alabama Heersink School of Medicine in Birmingham, Alabama, Dr. Heatherly spent an additional five years at UAB to complete his orthopedic surgery residency in 2025. During his time in residency, he developed his surgical skills at one of the busiest Level 1 trauma centers in the country. He spent an additional year of subspecialty training in orthopedic trauma at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga at Erlanger, the region’s only Level 1 trauma center and one of the higher-volume centers in the region for pelvic trauma. While in Chattanooga, he focused his surgical skills on the treatment of complex fractures of the extremities, pelvis, and hip socket. Dr. Heatherly actively participates in the Orthopedic Trauma Association to stay updated on the medical advances in the field of orthopedic trauma.

Dr. Heatherly is dedicated to addressing the medical needs of his patients while understanding individual concerns and goals. Outside of medicine, he is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys hunting and fishing. He also enjoys time with his wife and children, as well as attending various sporting events.
