Dr. Christopher Smith specializes in reconstructive plastic surgery with a focus in breast cancer reconstruction at Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Smith received his medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine in 2014. He went on to complete his general surgery internship and residency at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He completed his fellowship in plastic surgery at the combined Tulane University/Ochsner Clinic Program. While there, he received extensive training in implant-based and microsurgical breast reconstruction . Dr. Smith is double board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. He started on staff at Ochsner in 2022. Dr. Smith has a special interest in microsurgery. He performs the full range of breast reconstruction techniques. This includes: a variety of flaps that use the patients own tissue (DIEP, PAP, TDAP, GAP), breast reconstruction with implants, partial breast reconstruction and revision procedures. Dr. Smith performs complex reconstruction of defects resulting from cancer surgery from head to toe. He is also responsible for performing limb saving procedures for wounds resulting from trauma or chronic infection. Dr. Smith enjoys New Orleans' many festivals and restaurants in his free time.
