Dr. Dan Jacob has lived in the Greater New Orleans area for 50 years. He grew up in Cape Girardeau, Missouri and moved to New Orleans to attend Tulane University. After graduating from Tulane Medical School, he served in the United States Navy as a Primary Care Physician for five years, before being honorably discharged as a Lieutenant Commander. He returned to New Orleans to complete his residency training in Otolaryngology / Head and Neck Surgery at L.S.U.
Dr. Jacob is Board Certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology / Head and Neck Surgery. A common reaction he gets from his established patients when they learn of his move to Ochsner-Baptist is either, “Oh, I was born there,” or “We had our babies there.”
In 2002, Dr. Jacob founded New Orleans Medical Missions Services (NOMMS), along with four others. He has been president of NOMMS since its inception. NOMMS averages two surgical mission trips a year to Central and South America. An eye clinic providing eye exams and free pairs of glasses is also very active during their mission trips. Additionally, NOMMS maintains a large warehouse to help in their distribution of donated medical supplies and equipment both locally and abroad.
Dr. Jacob’s care and concern for his patients has not gone unnoticed. Some local recognitions and awards have been East Jefferson General Hospital’s “Great Gentleman” award, Jefferson Performing Arts Society’s “Community Leader” award, and “Health Care Hero” award.
