Dr. Jason DeFatta, DO, practices general surgery and trauma surgery at Ochsner Rush Health in Meridian, Mississippi. Dr. DeFatta has expertise in general surgery, minimally invasive surgery and trauma surgery, offering comprehensive care for various medical needs, including gastric surgery, bariatric surgery, gallbladder surgery, hernia surgery, endocrine surgery (thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal), intestinal and colorectal surgery, breast cancer surgery, endoscopy, surgical wound care, skin cancer, acute care surgery and trauma surgery. Dr. DeFatta earned his degree in osteopathic medicine from William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, in 2014, where he graduated as recipient of the President's Award. He graduated his general surgery residency from Henry Ford Hospital Systems in Detroit in 2019, where he was the general surgery chief resident from 2018 to 2019. He is board-certified in general surgery through the American Board of Surgery. Dr. DeFatta actively participates in the American College of Surgery to stay updated on medical advancements. Dr. DeFatta is dedicated to addressing the medical needs of his patients while understanding individual concerns and goals. He has been practicing at Ochsner Rush Health since 2019. Outside of medicine, he enjoys, outdoors activities, including hunting and fishing, and enjoys multiple sports (specifically football and table tennis; he won the 2019 bronze medal in table tennis in the Mississippi State Games). He is a devoted husband and father to his wonderful wife, Jacqueline DeFatta, and his five children, Elijah, Isaac, Lillian, Nessa and Brielle. He loves his community and is involved in his local church. He is heavily involved in mentoring troubled youth in Meridian, Mississippi, and he has started a mentoring program through Ochsner Rush called Project Inspire.
