Biography

Dr. Lawrence L. Haber practices pediatric orthopedic surgery and spine surgery at Ochsner Health. He is originally from Texas, completing his bachelors at Texas Christian University and medical school at Texas Tech University. He did his orthopedic training at the Medical College of Virginia and completed a pediatric orthopedic fellowship at Vanderbilt University. He practiced as an assistant professor at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, for over five years, where he was also director of pediatric orthopedics at Tod Children's Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio. In 2004, he took a position at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he served as chief of pediatric orthopedic surgery for over 10 years. He is internationally known as a pediatric spine surgeon, developing Ochsner into a major pediatric spine center, treating all pediatric pathologies with the most modern techniques available including fusion, osteotomies, Magec Rods and Vertebral Body Tether (VBT). Patients travel from around the United States and from South America to seek care. Surgeons from around the country visit to learn how to perform VBT, a minimally invasive and motion sparing surgery for scoliosis. He also is active in the care of pediatric trauma and fractures, foot and ankle problems, limb lengthening and deformities and treats children with neuromuscular problems like cerebral palsy and spina bifida. Most of his research interests are clinical and involve scoliosis surgery. He has done many national and international presentations and publications. Dr. Haber has served as chairman for multiple national committees for Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America and Scoliosis Research Society and has been active in other organizations as well; most of these roles involving education of pediatric spine surgeons. He served on the board of directors for the Scoliosis Research Society. Dr. Haber is active in his community, passionate about his family and enjoys playing guitar, golfing and fishing.
