Dr. Veronica Gillispie is a Board Certified Obstetrician & Gynecologist who practices at Ochsner Baptist Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. She earned her medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee in 2004. She went on to complete her residency training at Ochsner Health System in 2008. During her training, Dr. Gillispie served as Administrative Chief Resident.
Clinically, Dr. Gillispie provides obstetric care to low, moderate, and high risk patients as well as gynecology patients of all ages. Dr. Gillispie performs advanced laparoscopic and robotic assisted laparoscopic procedures. She has a special clinical interest in treatment options for women who suffer from symptoms related to fibroids. As such, she serves as the Director of the Center for the Minimally Invasive Treatment of Uterine Fibroids, an integrated, collaborative effort to provide women with minimally invasive treatment options for symptoms related to fibroids, and is the Principal Investigator for a national Phase 3 Clinical Trial for a medication for treatment of symptoms related to fibroids.
Dr. Gillispie has served in leadership positions both locally and nationally. She has served and Vice-Chair and Chair of the Junior Fellow Louisiana Section of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). Nationally, she has served as a member of the Committee on Healthcare for Underserved Women for ACOG as well as a member of the National Advisory Council on Maternal, Infant, and Fetal Nutrition under the United States Department of Agriculture. Currently, she serves as a member of the Council on Residency Education for Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG) Education Committee for ACOG.
In addition to compassionate patient care, Dr. Gillispie is both very dedicated and passionate about education. She has served as the Associate Program Director for the OB/GYN Residency program and is currently the Clerkship Director for Obstetrics and Gynecology for The Ochsner Clinical School/University of Queensland, Australia. Through these leadership roles, she helps to shape and mold the physicians of tomorrow. She also serves as the Director of Quality in Women's Services at Ochsner Baptist.
Dr. Gillispie has received many awards and accolades. During her residency, she received the 2008 Alton Ochsner Resident Leader of the Year award. In 2012, she received the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO) Excellence in Teaching Award. She was named one of New Orleans Magazine's Best Doctors in 2015, 2016 and 2017, Best Doctors in America 2015 and 2016, America's Best Physicians in 2016, and Castle Connolly Top Doctors in 2016 and 2017. She also received Xavier University of Louisiana Alumni “40 Under 40” Achievement Award in 2016. She has also been quoted in several local and national publications and is regularly featured on local television media.
