Vicki Matherne, APRN-CNM, is a Certified Nurse Midwife with Ochsner Medical Center Baton Rouge Louisiana. Ms. Matherne attended Frontier Nursing University (Hyden Kentucky), and received her Midwifery Certification in 1998. She is certified by the American College of Nurse Midwives. Prior to joining Ochsner Medical Center, Ms. Matherne actively practiced for a busy OB/GYN practice in Hammond Louisiana for the past 16 years. She currently sees patients at multiple clinic locations and assists in delivery at Ochsner Medical Center - Baton Rouge. Ms. Matherne chose to practice Midwifery to provide women with the option to be active participants in their plan of care. She believes birth to be a very personal experience and believes her patients have been her greatest teachers. I believe the patient provider relationship to be the cornerstone to ultimate patient satisfaction. It is through active listening that we developed trust with our patients. It is through our patients' voice and body language that their health, mental, and emotional needs can be identified. As a provider it is my job to accurately identify these needs and actively encourage patients participation in formulating their plan of care. I believe If the patient is not actively involved in their care the likelihood of compliance is decreased. Patients are our teachers.
