Overview

As the philanthropic arm of Ochsner Lafayette General, Ochsner Lafayette General Foundation’s purpose is to steward lifelong relationships with donors, raise funds and dedicate its resources to Ochsner Lafayette General and the communities it serves.

Founded in 2014, Ochsner Lafayette General Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to providing resources to help advance the mission of Ochsner Lafayette General — to Serve, Heal, Lead, Educate and Innovate.

As the largest not-for-profit, regional health system, Ochsner Lafayette General relies on the generosity of donors to support vital funding for programs and projects for patient care, innovative technology and equipment, medical education and training programs, and capital improvements.

Governance & Leadership

The staff of the Ochsner Lafayette General Foundation help fund critical medical services, equipment, building expansion and medical education for Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center, Ochsner Lafayette General Orthopedic Hospital, Ochsner St. Martin Hospital, Ochsner University Hospital & Clinics, Ochsner Acadia General Hospital, Ochsner Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital and Ochsner Lafayette General Community Center through administration of various funding initiatives, campaigns and events.

The Board of Directors is the governing body of Ochsner Lafayette General Foundation. The Board represents a diverse group of leaders who share a key passion — enhancing community healthcare through philanthropy. Board members serve as volunteers and are not compensated for their services.

Creating an endowment or contributing to an existing one provides Ochsner Lafayette General with a permanent, self-sustaining source of income to support programs and priorities that impact thousands of patients. Annual Giving

Ochsner Lafayette General receives gifts annually from hundreds of benefactors in support of Ochsner Lafayette General’s mission. Every gift is important, no matter how large or small.

Employee & Alumni Giving

Hundreds of employees and alumni support Ochsner Lafayette General through charitable gifts, and together, donate thousands of dollars a year to help us continue to be the best place to work, practice medicine and receive care.

Like all donors to Ochsner Lafayette General, employee donors are given the opportunity to support the aspects of healthcare that touch them most deeply — from growing our workforce to building new facilities. Their philanthropic investment in the organization helps to ensure high-quality care is always available in our community.

Gifts of Gratitude Program

Our Gifts of Gratitude program is an annual direct mail appeal that offers a meaningful way for grateful patients and their loved ones to say thank you and recognize caregivers who made a difference during their visit or hospital stay.

Giving Days

• SOLA Giving Day is an annual giving movement connecting donors and dollars to nonprofits like Ochsner Lafayette General Foundation. This event helps raise awareness about the critical role the Foundation plays within Ochsner Lafayette General, and it inspires people like you to give and to be a part of creating a stronger nursing workforce in the Acadiana region.

• GivingTuesday is held the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It is a national day of giving to inspire generosity around the world and our community, with a common mission to build a world where generosity is part of everyday life.

Corporate Giving

Corporations and businesses play critical roles in the transformation of healthcare through grants and corporate giving. By supporting areas where your organization's mission aligns with ours, corporations and foundations accelerate and improve research, medical education and clinical care. There are a wide range of opportunities to strengthen the work taking place across Ochsner in Acadiana.

Foundation Giving

At Ochsner Lafayette General Foundation, we seek meaningful partnerships with foundations that are helping to make a difference in healthcare.

Together, we can form a partnership that resonates with your foundation’s mission and provides vital philanthropic support for the life-saving work being done every day by Ochsner physicians and medical staff.

We pursue and welcome philanthropic funding through private family foundations, corporate foundations and community foundations. We manage submissions of grants, monitor opportunities locally, review proposals and conduct prospect research. We also work closely with our corporate relations team to strategize the best approaches to corporate foundations.

Planned Giving

Planning for the future is one of the most effective ways to ensure a lasting impact. Making a gift in your will or living trust, known as a bequest, can guarantee that your legacy endures. Your gift may be a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate or the remainder after all other provisions are specified. A planned gift ensures that our community will have the latest medical technology, the finest facilities and world-class physicians so that the people we love can access the very best care available anywhere.

Below is suggested language to use when drafting your bequest.

"I give, devise and bequeath to Ochsner Lafayette General, a Louisiana nonprofit corporation and a qualified 501(c)(3) organization, located in Lafayette, Louisiana, Federal Tax ID Number 37-1766778, the sum of __________ (or % of my estate), (or other personal property herein described) to be used for its general programs in patient care, medical education and research as it shall determine."

If you have named Ochsner Lafayette General in your will or trust, please let us know so we can ensure that your gift is used according to your wishes. Notifying us of your plans will enable us to plan for the use of your future gift. However, if you prefer to remain anonymous, we will keep your name and gift in strict confidence.

Leave a Bequest

Endowments

You can endow a department chair, a clinical program, building fund or other service to create a permanent funding source. Endowments can be named in your honor or for a loved one.

The minimum donation level for endowments is $25,000. When you create an endowment, the entire amount of your gift remains intact, with income from the endowment benefiting the program or service that you designate. To learn more, please contact us at 337-571-0080.

Naming Opportunities

We would be pleased to name a building, wing or suite of your choice in your honor or as a tribute to a loved one. You could also fund an apprenticeship or fellowship program. We would be glad to help you explore the options that best fit your personal financial and charitable needs.

Tribute & Memorial Gifts

Tribute Gifts are a thoughtful way of honoring a physician, nurse or caregiver who has made a positive impact on your care. Tribute Gifts are also a unique way to honor a friend, relative or co-worker for many of life’s special occasions — birthdays, holidays, weddings, anniversaries or other milestones. Your generous contribution will be used to make a difference in the lives of the countless patients in our community for generations to come.

Memorial Gifts pay tribute to the memory of a loved one who has passed away, while making a difference in the lives of our patients.

Benefactor Society

The Benefactor Society celebrates and recognizes the loyal and generous donors who have given $25,000 or more.

Legacy Society

The Legacy Society celebrates and recognizes the loyal and generous donors who have included Ochsner Lafayette General in their estate plans.

Physician Society

The Physician Society is a recognition program for physicians (current and alumni) who are committed to advancing the mission of Ochsner Lafayette General through philanthropy. Their support sets a powerful example that inspires benefactors of Ochsner Lafayette General Foundation to add their own contributions. Physicians who give $1,000 or more annually will receive membership in the Physician Society.

Partner in Health Society

Join us as a Partner in Health and support Ochsner Lafayette General’s Excellence Fund as we bring excellence in healthcare throughout the Acadiana region. As a Partner in Health, you enhance the health of those we serve through a tax-deductible contribution of $1,000 or more annually. Through your membership and investment, Partners in Health allow us to provide the highest quality care for the communities we serve, paving the way for a healthier Acadiana and state.
