What is the nursing pre-apprenticeship?

The nursing pre-apprenticeship is a nursing training program, in which students have the option to pursue an accelerated career pathway to licensed practical nurse  (LPN) or a registered nurse (RN).

Students who desire to continue the program after their sophomore year of high school enroll in pre-set dual enrollment courses in their junior and senior years of high school.

After high school graduation, the students who complete dual enrollment will have a choice to enroll in Delgado Charity School of Nursing and be given the opportunity to transition into a paid apprenticeship with Ochsner Health.

What does this program offer?

The high school pre-apprenticeship program offers students career pathways to high-wage jobs in the healthcare industry. Students begin the program in their sophomore year (grade 10) and complete the program within two years after high school graduation. During the pre-apprenticeship, students engage in career exploration, group projects, essential business skills, summer internships and financial literacy courses.

Ochsner's pre-apprenticeship pathways align with the Louisiana Department of Education Jump Start program. Jump Start aligns Louisiana’s K-12 Career and Technical Education strategy with the state’s economic development strategies, preparing students for the careers that will drive our state’s future prosperity. All Louisiana students, even those on the TOPS University Diploma track, can obtain industry-based credentials to prepare for high-wage, high-demand careers.
