Meet Our Lung Cancer Team

Susan Gunn, MD, is a thoracic medical oncologist at Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Gunn serves as the system medical director of the Lung Cancer Screening Program, identifying patients who are at risk for lung cancer and encouraging early screening. She performs many of the diagnostic and staging procedures using endobronchial ultrasound and navigation bronchoscopies using a robotic platform. Dr. Gunn is a member of the thoracic oncology multi-disciplinary team at Ochsner.

Rolando Sanchez, MD, specializes in pulmonary disease medicine and critical care medicine at Ochsner Health in New Orleans.

Derek Vonderhaar, MD, specializes in pulmonary medicine at Ochsner Health.
 

Daniel Johnson, MD, is a medical oncologist at Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center. He is a clinical investigator focusing on designing and implementing clinical trials intended to optimize the safety and efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors.

Ian Landry, MD, specializes in hematology oncology at Ochsner Health.

Ralph Millett IV, MD, is a board-certified hematologist and medical oncologist at Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center. His research and clinical focus is thoracic medical oncology. Dr. Millett is a member of American Medical Association, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer , and the American Society of Hematology.

Suma Reddy-Satti, MD, is a medical oncologist at Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center specializing in thoracic cancer, including lung cancer and mesothelioma. Dr. Satti is actively involved in research and various philanthropic efforts to aid in patient care.

Jordan Dozier, MD, is a fellowship-trained, board-certified thoracic surgeon at Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center focusing on thoracic cancer and complex benign disease. Dr. Dozier uses advanced robotic and thoracoscopic/laparoscopic (camera-based) techniques to treat conditions of the lung, mediastinum, esophagus, pleura, diaphragm and airway. He also performs abdominal surgeries including the surgical management of hiatal hernias and reflux disease. Dr. Dozier treats acquired (trauma) and congenital diseases of the chest wall. He is one of few thoracic surgeons in the Gulf South that treats adult chest wall deformities including pectus excavatum and performs minimally invasive Nuss procedures for appropriate patients.

John Pagteilan, MD, is a thoracic surgeon at Ochsner Health. Dr. Pagteilan combines advanced robotic, thoracoscopic and laparoscopic approaches to treat a wide array of disease. His added capacity in interventional pulmonology and advanced endoscopy also allows lower-risk and more timely diagnoses and procedures. To ensure Louisiana's most comprehensive thoracic cancer treatment, Dr. Pagteilan collaborates with multidisciplinary teams with experts in chemotherapy, radiation and pulmonology. Dr. Pagteilan is also a lung transplant surgeon with cardiopulmonary bypass and ECMO capability who works with his transplant team to refine the state’s most historic and active lung transplant center.

Brian Pettiford, MD, MBA, MMM, is a board-certified thoracic surgeon with a focus in thoracic oncology at Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and holds memberships in the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Southern Thoracic Surgical Society and the Eastern Cardiothoracic Surgical Society. He has authored or coauthored over 40 journal articles and book chapters. Dr. Pettiford has extensive experience in the treatment of malignant mesothelioma and the minimally invasive treatment of esophageal cancer as well as benign esophageal conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux and esophageal achalasia.

Donald Muller, MD, is a radiation oncologist at Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Muller sees patients for lung cancer, as well as head and neck cancer at Ochsner Medical Center and Ochsner St. Tammany Cancer Center.

William Russell, MD, specializes in radiation oncology at Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Russell is double-board certified in internal medicine and radiation oncology. He currently has interests in prostate brachytherapy and conformal treatment planning for breast, lung, prostate, head and neck and gastrointestinal cancers.

Clayton Smith, MD, specializes in radiation oncology at Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Smith is board certified by the American Board of Radiology. He is an expert in treating cancers of the brain, lung and gastrointestinal tract as well as specializing in stereotactic radiosurgery and stereotactic body radiation therapy. Dr. Smith serves as Medical Director of Quality for the Department of Radiation Oncology.

Pia Williams, RN, is an oncology nurse navigator on the lung cancer team. Pia is a professional registered nurse with proficient oncology-specific clinical knowledge who offers individualized assistance to patients and caregivers to help overcome healthcare system barriers. Pia coordinates timely access to quality patient care while providing a vital link in communication between multidisciplinary providers both internal and external to Ochsner during initial treatment planning and continuum of care.
