Biography
Dr. Purvis earned his specialist’s degree from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, and his doctorate from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, both in school psychology. He completed his predoctoral internship at P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School where he conducted psychoeducational assessments and counseling for K-12 students. Dr. Purvis completed his postdoctoral fellowship at UF Health Springhill Medical Psychology, specializing in treating obsessive compulsive disorder and emotion dysregulation in youth.
Dr. Purvis’ counseling methods include cognitive behavior therapy with exposure and response prevention, solution-focused therapy, prolonged exposure therapy, affirmative psychotherapy, parent management training and functional family therapy. He is licensed to provide psychological services in Louisiana and Florida.
Dr. Purvis is dedicated to improving the well-being of his patients while valuing individual goals, identities and lived experiences. He has been practicing at Ochsner since 2025. Outside of clinical practice, he is an avid karaoke singer.
