Andrew Gottschalk, MD

Andrew W. Gottschalk, M.D. trained in sports medicine at both Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic. His extensive experience includes treating athletes of all levels of competition, including those in the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NCAA Division I.

As Ochsner’s Director of Primary Care Sports Medicine, Dr. Gottschalk serves as Head Medical Team Physician for the NBA New Orleans Pelicans. Dr. Gottschalk is a member of the NBA’s Board of Athlete Health and is involved in several other sports medicine associations and initiatives. Dr. Gottschalk is also an avid writer, his multiple publication projects include his regular newspaper column, “The Sports Medicine Doctor.” Dr. Gottschalk is the current Musculoskeletal Health Editor for the medical journal Evidence-Based Practice

Overall, you want a doctor (an actual M.D.) who knows the medicine, and is honest with you about the treatment options. Too many doctors just tell you what you want to hear. There is a difference between a good doctor and a good pleaser. This guy is the real deal.
