Bonnie Alvey has been a nurse for 49 years and worked at Ochsner since 1984. Over her long nursing career, she has served patients in several specialties but her passion is as a wound and ostomy specialist (or enterostomal therapist) which started in 1992. She completed special training at MD Anderson's School of Enterostomal Therapy (1993) and later a master's at the University of South Alabama in adult and geriatric health (2011) becoming certified as a clinical nurse specialist (CNS). As a CNS, she provides advanced nursing practice in wound and ostomy services in the first and only outpatient clinic in the New Orleans region. She is able to provide expert care and assist persons with ostomies, wounds, fistulas, skin problems related to the above and incontinence. The Enterostomal Clinic is located within the Ochsner Colon and Rectal Surgery Clinic (inside Ochsner Medical Center - New Orleans). Bonnie is a member of the Wound Ostomy Continence Nurses Society (WOCN) and the American Nurses Association (ANA). She has spoken at several national conferences over the years and provided many CE programs related to ostomy and wounds.
