Dr. Kann received his medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania/Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA in 1997. He completed his residency in General Surgery at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, NJ, followed by a fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, LA.
Dr. Kann is board-certified by both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon & Rectal Surgery. He has been on staff at Ochsner Medical Center since 2015. Prior to that, he worked at Cooper University Hospital and the University of Pennsylvania, where he served as Program Director of the CRS Residency Program. He currently serves in multiple leadership roles at Ochsner Medical Center, including Program Director of the CRS Residency Program, Medical Director of Endoscopy, Surgical Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program, and chair of the Operating Room Block/Scheduling Committee. He is an Assistant Professor at the University of Queensland/Ochsner Clinical School.
Dr. Kann is a member of multiple professional organizations, including the American College of Surgeons, American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS), Association of Program Directors for Colon & Rectal Surgery, Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America and Piedmont Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. In 2019, he served as Program Chair for the Annual Scientific Meeting of the ASCRS. Dr. Kann is an Associate Examiner for the American Board of Colon & Rectal Surgery and serves on the Board’s Continuing Certification Committee. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles, reviews, and textbook chapters and served as lead editor for the textbook Improved Outcomes in Colon and Rectal Surgery.
While Dr. Kann’s practice covers the entire spectrum of colorectal disease, he has a particular interest in the surgical management of inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease) and colorectal cancer. In his free time, he enjoys golf, music, and spending time with his family.
