Candace Douglas Gilmore, MD, practices obstetrics and gynecology at CHRISTUS Ochsner Lake Area Hospital in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Dr. Gilmore provides expert care for women at every stage of life, from routine checkups and preventive care to pregnancy and complex gynecologic conditions. She has a special interest in treating menstrual disorders in women of all ages, from adolescence through adulthood. She also cares for women with uterine fibroids, offering both medical and surgical treatment options such as myomectomy, hysteroscopy and hysterectomy. In addition, she performs cervical procedures such as the loop electrosurgical excision procedure, or LEEP, which treats abnormal cervical cells. 

Dr. Gilmore cares for women with high-risk pregnancy, including those who have chronic medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes (Type 1 and Type 2), thyroid disorder and obesity. She supports women with pregnancy-induced conditions such as preeclampsia and gestational diabetes. In addition, she helps patients with contraception choices and preventive health. 

Dr. Gilmore earned her medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Mississippi in Jackson, Mississippi. She is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. 

Listening closely to each patient and building care around their goals and concerns is important to Dr. Gilmore. She takes time to explain conditions, procedures and next steps in clear, simple language so women feel comfortable asking questions and confident in their decisions. She partners with each patient to help them make informed choices about their health in a respectful, judgment-free setting. 

Outside of direct patient care, Dr. Gilmore is committed to improving women's health across Southwest Louisiana. She works to expand access to preventive services and health education, with a focus on closing gaps in care that affect women and families. She enjoys leading church-based programs and taking part in community events throughout the Lake Charles area.
