Dr. Chima P. Akunne was a James Dickson Carr Scholar at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Cellular Biology and Neuroscience. He followed his undergraduate collegiate career with earning his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Upon completion of his didactic podiatric medicine and surgical education, Dr. Akunne completed an all-encompassing foot and ankle medical and surgical residency program at New York Presbyterian-Brooklyn Methodist Hospital - a Level II trauma center.
Dr. Akunne both medically and surgically manages all ailments of the foot and ankle, specializing in pediatric ailments of the foot, intoeing gait, flatfoot deformity, reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, arthritic conditions of the foot and ankle, flatfoot deformity due to tendon pathology, trauma of the foot and ankle, sports medicine, wound healing and diabetic limb salvage.
Dr. Akunne is a Diplomate of the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He is certified in foot as well as ankle surgery. In his words: "I strive to develop a treatment and care plan, whether conservative or surgical that is conducive to patient compliance and ultimate satisfaction. I am sure to detail the positives and negatives of a given treatment algorithm and do provide the patient with acceptable and/or suitable alternatives to a given treatment course. The patient's needs and desires, as well as ability, goes a long way towards my development of an appropriate conservative treatment or surgical recommendation.”
