Dennis A. Wells, MD, practices pediatric and congenital cardiac surgery at Ochsner Childrens Hospital. Dr. Wells has expertise in all areas of congenital cardiac surgery and specializes in the care of infants and children as well as adults with congenital heart disease. His particular areas of interest include neonatal surgery, single ventricle palliation, the Ross procedure, vascular rings as well as mechanical circulatory support and transplantation. Of note, he and the advanced heart failure team at Ochsner Childrens Hospital offer comprehensive and state of the art care for pediatric heart failure patients, including infants. Dr. Wells is board-certified in thoracic surgery and subspecialty-certified in congenital cardiac surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He completed a congenital cardiac surgery fellowship at Cincinnati Childrens Hospital Medical Center under the leadership of the late, renowned Dr. James S. Tweddell who was a world leader in the care of infants with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Dr. Wells is an active member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and World Society for Congenital and Pediatric Cardiac Surgery and stays updated on medical advancements in his field. Dr. Wells is dedicated to working with the outstanding multi-disciplinary care team at Ochsner Childrens Hospital to address the complex needs of patients with congenital heart disease throughout the Gulf South and to ensure that these patients and their families can receive the highest quality care and expect excellent outcomes right here in New Orleans. He has been practicing at Ochsner since 2022.
